OtterBox announces new ‘Armor Series’

FORT COLLINS — OtterBox, the Fort Collins mobile-case technology maker, is calling its new Armor Series “the toughest case ever built.”

OtterBox said Thursday that the new $99.95 cases will be available at stores and online beginning Feb. 22. The series is “waterproof, drop-proof, dust-proof and crush-proof” for the Apple iPhone 4, 4S and 5.

Armor Series cases for the Samsung Galaxy S III will be available “soon,” OtterBox said.

Four layers are fused with watertight latches, O-ring technology, port covers and mesh coverings. The cases can survive for 30 minutes in as much as 6.6 feet of water.

Vents and port covers are made of a non-permeable membrane, and a protective mesh layer allows sound to move through while keeping harmful elements out.

The cases also can withstand 10-foot drops. Molded bumpers in each corner absorb shock, and reinforced plastic can bear as much as two tons of force.

Soft interior foam cushions phones, while a built-in screen protector prevents scratches and damage to the glass display. Corrosion-resistant metal latches lock the two halves of the case together.
