X-Games-adjacent Owl AI hires tech chief

BOULDER — Owl AI Inc., a technology platform introduced during last year’s X Games in Aspen that uses artificial intelligence to judge sporting events such as a snowboarding halfpipe contest, recently hired Chris Haire as chief technology officer.

In this role, Haire, who previously held the same title with content-creation platform VSCO, will oversee Owl’s engineering and applied AI-development efforts. 

“The Owl team is solving one of the biggest challenges in live sports today — quickly turning physical motion into objective, real-time data,” Haire said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to leading this world-class engineering team, continuing to scale the technology, and delivering undeniable evidence when it matters most.”

Haire’s appointment comes just a few months after Owl hired Jay Prasad, formerly the CEO of sports-marketing firm Relo Metrics, as its chief executive. 

“Every live decision OWL makes has to land in under a few seconds, on a live broadcast, with the frames behind it. Chris has spent his career building edge-scaled AI systems that don’t get to be late, running real-time platforms on the devices people carry every day,” Prasad said in the release. “His technical leadership will be invaluable as we continue to scale our technology and democratize access to objective sports intelligence across every level of competition.”
