Loveland-based whiskey named world’s best
LOVELAND — At least according to one competition, the world’s best whiskey is made in Colorado.
Loveland-based Root Shoot Spirits’ American Single Malt Whiskey was named Spirit of the Year, Whiskey of the Year and American Single Malt Whiskey of the Year in April at the international London Spirits Competition.
Root Shoot Whiskey is made from grain grown and malted at Olander Farms, a fifth-generation family farm, and aged four years in American white oak barrels, representing a hyper-local supply chain journey of only about 30 miles from field to bottle.
The London competition evaluates spirits on quality, value and packaging aesthetics. Several thousand entries from around the world are submitted to the competition each year.
Root Shoot previously won double gold at the American Craft Spirits Awards, where a group of expert judges evaluate hundreds of entries.
“You can’t recognize Root Shoot whiskey without also acknowledging the power of Colorado agriculture — from the high altitude, to the soil, to the people working the land,” Root Shoot farmer and founder Todd Olander said in a news release. “This is a special place that produces special malts and whiskeys. I can’t think of better news to receive on Earth Day.”
