SUPERIOR — Eight months after the Marshall Fire forced its closure, the Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT) store in Superior is reopening on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Superior Mayor Clint Folsom on Tuesday posted a Facebook comment that referenced the reopening and a Target spokesperson confirmed to BizWest that Aug. 30 is the target date. The Daily Camera first reported the reopening on Tuesday evening. 

“It’s official…Superior’s TARGET store is re-opening next Tuesday, August 30th!” Folsom’s Facebook post said. “… The heat from the roof fire activated the fire sprinklers inside the store, but due to a malfunction, the sprinklers did not shut off for several days and the entire store was severely flooded. Days after the fire, I recall stopping by Target while surveying the town with the town manager and sheriff’s sergeant and we saw water flowing out of the front doors as crews were working frantically in the below freezing weather trying to get the water shut off.  Now, eight months later, the store has been reconstructed, restocked and it will be opening next week!”

Target has renovated, remodeled and modernized the store during the eight-plus months it was shuttered. 

The Marshall Fire, which was sparked in the late morning hours of Dec. 30, 2021, and scorched more than 6,000 acres in Boulder County, burned more than 1,000 homes and businesses in Superior, Louisville and nearby sections of unincorporated county land. Investigators have yet to pin down a cause for the blaze.
