Anadarko announces closure of natural gas gathering system

The largest energy driller in the state, Anadarko Petroleum Corp., is closing its natural gas gathering system in Northern Colorado, citing safety considerations.

The network of pipelines called Third Creek carries natural gas from wells to processing facilities to market and serves dozens of other small energy producers, reports the Denver Post. The system operates in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver and Elbert counties.

The closure comes just a week after Anadarko settled with the families of victims and survivors of a home explosion in Firestone, which was blamed on an uncapped flowline operated by the company.

How dispatchable resources enable the clean energy transition

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

However the Denver Post reports that the company says the closure is not related to the explosion or the settlement.

About 100 jobs could be impacted by the closure, as producers will likely have to shut down their wells.
