Nonprofit StoryCorps to record voices in Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS — Nationally renowned nonprofit StoryCorps will record the stories of Northern Colorado residents today through May 18.

Working in collaboration with KUNC, the NPR affiliate station in Northern Colorado, StoryCorps will record the stories of ordinary Americans using a mobile recording studio housed in an Airstream trailer. The trailer will be located in the parking lot of New Belgium Brewing Co., 500 Linden St. in Fort Collins, for four weeks.

So far, StoryCorps has recorded stories from more than 65,000 people and now has the largest single collection of human voices ever recorded.
The first round of reservations for people to tell their stories filled up in 15 minutes, but additional reservation slots will open at 10 a.m. on April 20 at kunc.org or by calling StoryCorps’ 24-hour toll-free reservation line at 1-800-850-4406 or visiting storycorps.org. StoryCorps’ Fort Collins visit is sponsored locally by Kaiser Permanente.
KUNC will air a selection of local interviews recorded in the StoryCorps MobileBooth and create special programs around the project. StoryCorps may also share excerpts of these stories with the world through the project’s weekly NPR broadcasts, animated shorts, digital platforms and books. With participant permission, all StoryCorps interviews will be archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
