Weld County schools rake in more than $2M from Pawnee grassland fracking

Seventeen Weld County school districts this week received a windfall of roughly $2 million thanks to oil and natural gas production in the Pawnee National Grassland.

The Greeley Tribune reports that the funds are part of the $7.3 million in all in fees received by the county from the U.S. Forest Service for mineral production. In addition to the school districts, the county’s Bright Futures scholarship program received more than $1.6 million, with the county receiving the other half of the $7.3 million total for road and bridge repair.
