Chernoff adds Plaza Convention Center to Longmont holdings

LONGMONT — Chernoff Boulder Properties, just months after buying three commercial buildings on Industrial Circle in Longmont, this week closed on the purchase of the adjacent Plaza Convention Center.

Boulder-based Chernoff paid Pratt Management Co., $3,062,500 for the property at 1850 Industrial Circle.

Entrepreneur Seth Chernoff, who leads Chernoff Boulder Properties, said Friday that Pratt Management signed a leaseback deal for an unspecified period of time and will continue to manage the 37,000-square-foot building as a convention center.

Chernoff said 35,000 people visit the site for events each year, but that the property is in need of some upgrades. He said he hasn’t nailed down a plan yet for what improvements might be made or on what timeline.

“Over time, we’re hopeful that with participation from the city, we can make it great again,” Chernoff said. “We believe that having a convention center in Longmont is an important part of the community. It just needs a little bit of love.”

Officials for Pratt Management, which also owns the Best Western Plus Plaza Hotel across the street, could not be reached for comment Friday.

Chernoff, in April, bought the properties at 1860 Industrial, 1880 Industrial and 1960 Ken Pratt Blvd. — all directly south of the convention center — from Goff Capital Partners. The plan there is to upgrade the buildings’ exteriors and continue leasing them.

Chernoff said he doesn’t have any other purchases in the area planned at this time.

“I may surprise myself, but I wouldn’t mind taking a bit of a breather,” he said.
