Apex Movement Fort Collins to double size at new facility
FORT COLLINS — A gym featuring Parkour training techniques is moving three doors down to a space more than double its current size, and has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help.
Apex Movement Fort Collins is moving from its current space of less than 2,000 square feet in the Mulberry Commercial Park at 2649 E. Mulberry St., Suite 26, to a 4,600-square-foot space in Unit 30, the former site of a sheet-metal manufacturing company.
The new gym will have room for a foam pit, where people can practice gymnastics and other Parkour-related activities, said co-owner Justin Clark, who founded Apex Movement Fort Collins three years ago in Loveland,
Clark and two other people own the business, and licensed the Apex name. Apex Movement has three other Colorado locations, including at 3850 Frontier Ave., Unit 350, in Boulder.
Parkour is a fitness regime using movements developed from a military obstacle course. Participants get from one point to another quickly and efficiently through running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling and other movements.
“This is not just a bunch of stunts,” said co-founder Travis Lee. “The new location will allow us to have better equipment, reach more people and train more amazing movements.”
The gym has a wide range of age-divided classes, currently serving athletes from ages 4 to 54.
“Simply put, we’re running out of space to serve all of the interest we’ve had,” Clark said. When Movement Ascent LLC, doing business as Apex Movement Fort Collins, made its move from Loveland to Fort Collins 14 months ago, it was with the belief that the Fort Collins market would be able to help the business grow, he said, but after a year in its current location, Apex has steadily increased membership and is in need of more space.
The new location, expected to open in mid-February, will have room for competitions, special events and new equipment, including platforms, towers, vaulting boxes, gymnastics mats and enhancements to the bar structure, creating a setting that looks like an adult-sized jungle gym.
Apex Movement Fort Collins currently has two employees and four interns, but “most of our interns will move up into employees” when the new gym opens, Clark said. “We have a couple candidates for managers.
The gym has launched an Indiegogo campaign to pay for the large foam pit. “We’re selling a really cool shirt for $36,” Clark said, “and we’ve sold quite a few.” The crowdfunding campaign is online here.
Memberships for the new location will remain at a range from $50 to $115 and include options for classes, drop-ins and private lessons.
