Stretch of U.S. 36 to close next week

U.S. 36 will close for a quarter of a mile on each side of the McCaslin Boulevard bridge for girder installation 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Traffic will be detoured at the off-ramps and routed back onto eastbound and westbound U.S. 36 via the McCaslin on-ramps.

“The McCaslin bridge is a key piece of the work on the second phase of the U.S. 36 project,” said CDOT Project Director Mark Gosselin. “We are setting six, 88,000-pound girders in order to widen the existing McCaslin Boulevard bridge to accommodate the diverging diamond interchange.”

A Diverging Diamond Interchange crosses traffic to the opposite side of the road across an interchange so vehicles have unimpeded movement onto the freeway ramps. The McCaslin bridge is being completed in phases to accommodate traffic and will be finished in late 2015.

An express lane is being built in each direction on U.S. 36. The lanes will accommodate high-occupancy vehicles (HOV), buses and tolled single-occupancy vehicles.

Several bridges are being replaced and a commuter bikeway is also being built. The first phase of the project from Federal Boulevard to 88th Street in Louisville/Superior, will open to the public in 2015. The second phase from 88th Street to Table Mesa Drive in Boulder, will open in early 2016.
