TechStars’ managing director exits

BOULDER – Luke Beatty is stepping down as managing director of TechStars Boulder.

Beatty announced in a blog post that he’s leaving TechStars for a new, undisclosed opportunity that is too good to pass up.

Beatty’s predecessor, Nicole Glaros, will return to Boulder to replace Beatty at the startup accelerator. Glaros had left last fall to oversee TechStars New York’s spring session as managing director there.

“Luke is staying very close to the Boulder program, and Nicole is taking it back over,” TechStars co-founder and chief executive David Cohen said in an email Monday, adding that he expects Glaros to stay involved with New York.

Beatty, founder of Associated Content, served as a vice president at Yahoo! after Yahoo! acquired Associated Content in 2010. He left Yahoo! last year, and served as an entrepreneur in residence for TechStars Boulder before stepping into the role as managing director.

“I have a once-in-a-lifetime chance (to be announced later), that I just can’t pass up – one that wouldn’t allow me to live up to the TechStars promise if I were to try to juggle,” Beatty said in the blog. “I will remain annoyingly (hyper) active and will forever be engaged with the 11 companies that were in this summer’s cohort in Boulder.”

Reached via email Monday, Beatty offered no further insight on his future, saying only that his next venture would likely come to light later this week.

TechStars was founded in Boulder, with locations added in recent years in places such as Boston, New York and London. Under Beatty’s direction, TechStars Boulder recently graduated its seventh class, from which online tax planning startup GoodApril became the first TechStars alumnus to be acquired before it completed the program.
