Car, truck registrations up statewide

New car and light-truck registrations increased by 15.5 percent in Colorado from 2010 to 2011, according to new data from the Colorado Automotive Dealers Association.
The number of new vehicles registered in 2011 was 130,179, up from 112,663 in 2010.
The increase in registration serves as an indicator of the strength of Colorado’s economic performance compared with the nation as a whole, according to Tim Jackson, president of the Colorado Automotive Dealers Association.
Registrations in the U.S. market as a whole were up 14 percent from 2010 to 2011, the report said.
Year-over-year new vehicle registrations for December also were up, by 25 percent.
Used vehicle registrations fell 2.8 percent for the year 2011 from 2010, but increased year-over-year in December by 6.9 percent. The Colorado Automotive Dealers Association counts vehicles 7 years old or newer in this statistic.
