Do You Work Like a Dog?

As companies continue to do more with less, the average American is working longer hours and doing the work of two or three people. This is no longer a temporary situation while companies weather a difficult storm. It has become the standard operating procedure for most businesses.

There are no plans to hire more people. Help is not on the way. If you think otherwise, you are delusional. Employees are expected to accept being overworked and underpaid as the new reality. You should be lucky to have a job at all! Time off? Forget about it. There is no one who can do your work when you are out.

What if we all decided to take back our lives? What if employees everywhere simply took matters in their own hands? I am envisioning a bit of civil disobedience on a grand scale. What if workers everywhere showed up for work tomorrow at 9 a.m. What if at the stroke of noon the entire workforce took a leisurely lunch. Come 5 p.m. everyone goes home. Maybe I am the one who is delusional. But then I remember… we must be the change we wish to see.
