Sonnenberg named Legislator of the Year by livestock association

DENVER – The Colorado Livestock Association named Rep. Jerry Sonnenberg,
R-Sterling, as the Legislator of the Year last week for his work and
commitment to Colorado’s agriculture and livestock industry.

Sonnenberg earned attention during the last legislative session for his
work in overturning House Bill 10-1195, also known as the “ag tax,”
which eliminated a tax exemption on the sale of pesticides and
agricultural production compounds. Sonnenberg co-sponsored the
successful HB 1195 with Reps. John Becker, R-Fort Morgan, and Greg
Brophy, R-Wray.

“Since last year, agriculture has had to pay taxes on items that make up
their final products,” Sonnenberg said. “No other industry in the state
has to pay a tax on inputs.”

Sonnenberg also served as chair of the House Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee.
