Got 5 Minutes?

You are at work. The day is dragging by at a snail’s pace. You are distracted and a bit cranky. You need a quick pick me up. What can you do in a few short minutes? Lots. Try the following when you need a quick dose of inspiration, a deep drink from the well, or simply a moment of repose.

  1. Watch a Ted Talk. Okay, this one probably takes 10 minutes but this talk is truly worth the time.
  2. Close your eyes and breathe. Breathe deeply but don’t force the breath. Just observe the natural rhythm of your breath as it moves in and out of you.
  3. Write a friend a quick note and drop it in the mail.
  4. Drink a big glass of water. Savor each sip.
  5. Insert headphones. Turn on iPod. Let the music carry you away.
  6. Walk around the block. Briskly.
  7. Surf until you find Rumi and get lost in between the lines.
  8. Check out the amazing ball performer. I love this guy.
  9. Count your blessings. How many can you list in five minutes?
  10. Do 100 jumping jacks. Your office mates will smile but that is okay.
  11. Begin a bucket list or update an existing one.
  12. List your accomplishments for the past week. Acknowledge yourself.
  13. Make a lunch date with a long lost colleague.
  14. Grab the cleaner and wipe down your desk and computer screen.
  15. Peel an orange, slice an apple, and savor each bite.
  16. Meditate. Let your mind rest. Don’t control your thoughts. Just be.
  17. Catch up with your favorite blogger.
  18. Call your significant other just to say, “Hey.”
  19. Send your Mom flowers for absolutely no reason at all.
  20. Need a laugh? Head to Wimp. British humor hits the spot.
