Tendril, Whirlpool partner on appliances

BOULDER – A Boulder-based manufacturer of smart-grid infrastructure announced this week it will partner with one of the world’s largest appliance makers to develop smart appliances for consumers.

Tendril Inc. and Whirlpool Corp. (NYSE: WHR), which is based in Benton Harbor, Michigan, made the announcement to coincide with their display at the DistribuTECH trade show in San Diego, California. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tendril will provide the back-end technology infrastructure to support the commercial deployment of smart appliances, including a range of connectivity-enabled services and applications, the press release announcing the agreement said. Whirlpool appliances will use Tendril’s platform to transmit data to consumers and energy providers.
