Its all about the countdown
I have a kid who literally fell flat on his face one Christmas morning at the sight of his gifts under the tree. Being only 3 at the time, he didn’t have far to drop, but to help diffuse the energy that inevitably builds up after Thanksgiving, we adopted the Advent Calendar – or, more correctly, its secular cousin the Countdown Calendar – as a family holiday tradition.
He’s a part-time working part-time adult now, but he got his set of 24 doors to open each day in the mail last week – mostly to help him remember his flight home leaves at 0:dark:30 on Christmas Eve.
But why stop there? From now until New Year’s, I’ll be counting down all the reasons we should rejoice that 2008 will soon be in the rearview — and what we might be tempted to recall as the good old days in the coming years.
