Vestas plans two plants, 1,350 jobs

BRIGHTON – Vestas Wind Systems, the world’s largest maker of wind-power generating equipment, will build two factories in southern Weld County that will provide high-paying manufacturing jobs for 1,350 people.

The Danish company will build a turbine blade factory on a site two miles north of Brighton similar to the one operating in Windsor, and another on the same site for manufacturing nacelles, the school bus-sized pods to which the blades are attached that contain gearboxes, generators and transformers.

The blade factory will open in early 2010 with 650 workers, and the nacelle plant will put another 700 people to work later…
