Intel grand opening to include Gov. Ritter

FORT COLLINS – Gov. Bill Ritter will attend the invitation-only grand opening of Intel Corp.’s new $37 million Fort Collins Design Center on Thursday.

Also attending will be representatives of Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel, including Senior Vice President Pat Gelsinger; Martin Fink, head of Hewlett-Packard Co.’s Business Critical Systems group, and Paul French, Intel’s site manager for the Fort Collins facility.

Intel, which has its main Colorado office in Colorado Springs, is setting up its Itanium computer chip design team in the former Celestica building at 4701 Technology Park in southeast Fort Collins. Intel acquired about 250 employees from the HP Itanium design team in December 2004. The two companies had been working to co-develop the chip for several years.

The grand opening will include a bill-signing ceremony by Ritter, according to Judy Cara, an Intel spokeswoman. Cara said she was not sure how many bills might be signed but identified HB-1277, which exempts sales and use taxes on machinery used in clean-room operations, as one that is planned for the governor’s pen.
