AMD to shut Longmont site, move jobs to F.C.

Advanced Micro Devices plans to close its Longmont operation and move about 75 employees to its Fort Collins division, a company official confirmed today.

AMD, chief rival to Intel Corp. in the production of semiconductor chips for computers, employs about 180 people at the Longmont site. The company plans to offer jobs at other AMD sites to about 75 of the Longmont workers. Nearly all of those positions will be in Fort Collins, where AMD established a chip design center earlier this year, a company spokeswoman said.
