Champions teach skills at Northern Colorado Fencers

BOULDER – Feel like taking a stab at a new sport? Fencing might fill the bill.

“People who like one-on-one competition and who don’t like the pain of boxing seem to enjoy it,” says Gary Copeland, who owns and runs the Northern Colorado Fencers club in Boulder.

When Copeland started the group in 1979 there were three people involved. Today there are 70.

“It seems that interest is starting to rise some here in Boulder. It was flat for the last couple of years, but now more people are coming out,” he says.
