Displaytech awarded $1.2 million holographic storage contract

LONGMONT – Displaytech Inc., a manufacturer of liquid crystal on silicon microdisplays, has received a $1.2 million contract from the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Advanced Technology Program to develop and write heads for holographic data storage.

The project is a joint venture with InPhase Technologies – also located in Longmont – which aims to develop drives for removable optical disks with a capacity greater than that of 1,000 CD-ROMs and perform comparable improvements in data rates over conventional magnetic and optical drives.
