With the encouragement of an American Bar Association task force and other interested groups, three professional organizations funded the creation of the institute in 1971: the Section of Judicial Administration of the ABA, the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
Aboussie leased the organization 26,373 square feet of space in the Louisville building, and the contract was signed July 11. No information was available as to when the organization will move in. With the addition of the institute, the building is now 80 percent full.
GIBBONS-WHITE DEALS: Lynda Gibbons of Gibbons-White Inc. has been busy as well, signing several leases in the past month and is in the process of negotiating more. While all the deals are relatively small and less than 10,000 square feet, they represent some significant moves for businesses trying to gain a lease advantage.
In the largest transaction, Gibbons and Charles Gee of Gibbons-White leased 5,198 square feet at 361 Centennial Parkway in Louisville to Latis Networks Inc., a security software company that was founded in Superior in June 2000.
Latis Networks’s management team tsaw the need for a security solution tailored to mid-size enterprises. The founding team realized that the market was saturated with enterprise-class products that were complex, difficult to use and expensive to implement.
Latis Networks’s founders embraced the opportunity to create affordable, user-friendly products to fill this market void. The result is the StillSecure suite of network security software products. StillSecure allows information technology departments to protect their networks, reduce risk and liability, maximize the efficiency of existing IT resources, and achieve regulatory compliance.
BOULDER
FREESKIER: Lynda Gibbons and Chris Boston of Gibbons-White also leased 3,027 square feet of office space to a major publishing company, Freeskier Magazine at 3100 Carbon Place in Boulder. The contract was signed July 1.
Freeskier appeals to people who are passionate about skiing and the mountain sports lifestyle. Freeskier claims to be the ultimate magazine for those readers.
Gibbons also made a major sale in Boulder to Van Chula LLC. Gibbons sold a 3,703-square-foot space at 3002 Bluff St. in Boulder to the company for $1,050,000.
LOAN REFINANCING: Terrix Financial continues to loan out major funds. The financial company announced a loan of $1,100,000 to refinance a mixed-use property at 767 and 777 Pearl St. in Boulder. The property has 11,515 square feet and is owned by a limited liability corporation controlled by three Boulder residents. The lender was Canada Life, which is exclusively represented by Terrix Financial in Colorado. John Richert and Marsha Blair of Terrix Financial arranged the 4.49 percent loan, which has a rate reset after five years with a 20-year amortization and a 10-year balloon.
DTJ DESIGN: DTJ Design Inc., formerly Downing Thorpe and James Architects, is providing planning and architecture services for Boulder-based Markel Homes.
The builder is designing and building homes at Niwot Meadow Farm, Hawk Ridge Estates, Wildridge Condominiums, White Hawk Ranch and Dakota Ridge Village. Dakota Ridge Village is a community developed to offer an array of housing types (single-family homes, town homes and condominiums) and quality of life amenities including access to open space, convenient shopping and public transportation.
DTJ Design is working with Markel Homes on a planned infill project to blend high-density attached housing with single-family homes using building forms that have similar scales, roof forms and character. Many of the homes, including small-lot cottages, duplex and fourplexes, will front onto pocket parks and have vehicle access via rear alleys.
The architectural firm also is involved in several other major projects in and around Boulder including One Boulder Plaza, the upcoming Xilinx Inc. expansion in Longmont, and providing planning and vision services for the 150-acre Gunbarrel Town Center project.
BROOMFIELD
DRAGON RACING: Frank Kelly of CB Richard Ellis landed a 10,340-square-foot lease July 18. Dragon Race Engineering, a Broomfield auto parts company, leased the space at 2275 West Midway. Ashley Overton of Gibbons White, Inc. was the selling agent on the transaction. The company was formerly located at 7317 West 118th Place in Broomfield.
LONGMONT
NAKED BURRITOS: Qdoba Mexican Grill has signed agreements to open 44 new restaurants in Colorado, New Jersey, Michigan and Illinois.
Partners Steve Lauer and Ken Shultz have committed to expanding their existing franchise agreement by adding four new locations in Longmont, Loveland, Fort Collins and Greeley. Lauer has worked in the restaurant business since 1985 in management and ownership for up to 30 Subway restaurants.
Qdoba’s menu includes grilled quesadillas, taco salads, nachos, tacos, soups and its signature Naked Burritos.
