Agribusiness: Farm auction season dwindles to 60 days

FORT COLLINS — Everett Schneider is seeing a trend in farming: the end of the small family farm. In its place: housing, development and strip malls.

Schneider is an auctioneer and real estate broker with WW Auctions & Real Estate in Fort Collins. Over the years he has handled numerous farm auctions.

In the past, farmers would auction farms and equipment during a hectic six-month season. Now, Schneider is seeing a season of 30 to 60 days.

“The season doesn’t start until February anymore,” Schneider said. “There just aren’t enough farmers.”
