CSU breaks digital speed limit
FORT COLLINS – A paradigm shift by Colorado State University researchers has resulted in the creation of a computer 600 times faster than the quickest Pentium chip.
The new class of computers reconfigures hardware so the computer can process huge digital files and complex data at high speeds.
The CSU researchers focus all that power on working with images. The U.S. military is using the technology in satellites and with night vision software to help recognize and identify objects. Researchers are also working on commercial applications that would compress large images 10 times to 100 times faster for transfer over the Internet.
