Boulder public school embraces Montessori teaching

BOULDER — The Montessori community is relatively long in the tooth in Boulder County, dating to 1964 when the first school opened in Boulder. Public awareness and acceptance of Montessori education is not so long-rooted. A 6-year-old public Montessori school in Boulder aims to change that.

Community Montessori, a few blocks west of the University of Colorado, is a public elementary school with its foundation in the Montessori method of hands-on, self-directed education. It is the only public Montessori program in the Boulder Valley School District and one of seven in the Denver metro area.

Christopher Wood
Christopher Wood is editor and publisher of BizWest, a regional business journal covering Boulder, Broomfield, Larimer and Weld counties. Wood co-founded the Northern Colorado Business Report in 1995 and served as publisher of the Boulder County Business Report until the two publications were merged to form BizWest in 2014. From 1990 to 1995, Wood served as reporter and managing editor of the Denver Business Journal. He is a Marine Corps veteran and a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder.
