Chamber picks Nation’s Job for Web site

BOULDER – If you build it, they will come — to Boulder for jobs that is.

After much debate, the Boulder Chamber of Commerce has selected the builder of the online job recruitment site that chamber members hope will bring more workers to Boulder.

Nation’s Job was chosen over two other bidders, including Career Magazine and Coloradojobs.com, because it offered “the best combination of features, support and pricing,´ said Pat Engstrom, a chamber board member who served on the committee that made the final decision in May.

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

“The service needs to work for our members. (Members) wanted ease of use and high production,´ said Stan Zemler, president of the Boulder Chamber. Zemler said the committee chose Nation’s Job because of its ability to balance the needs of chamber members posting jobs with those of people searching for jobs.

In making its final selection, Zemler said the chamber considered “who had the capacity to drive a lot of people to the site.” That made Nation’s Job, a national company that works with chambers across the country, including Denver and Fort Collins, an even stronger candidate.

“They’re quite familiar with the needs of a group like us,” Engstrom said.

“Nation’s Job is just excellent in working with chambers. I think they’re at so many chambers, because they have great member packaging,” added Susan Bond, director of business services at the Boulder Chamber.

Nation’s Job isn’t charging the chamber a fee to develop the site; however, services are not free. A company with 500 or more employees pays a $5,000 annual service fee for unlimited job listings; a company with fewer than 25 employees pays $300; and a third-party recruiter pays $2,000.

Even though the services are not free, Engstrom, Bond and Zemler agree that the prices are fair and competitive. “Our responsibility is to recruit enough companies to make the site worth it,” Bond said.

The chamber gets 20 percent of the fees, which will be put toward marketing the site, Bond said.

The agreement with Nation’s Job is for one year, and Bond and Zemler said that the chamber will consider other companies as their needs change. The Daily Camera also made a bid for the contract to post job listings.
