PCs vulnerable to 2000 bug in both hardware, software

When fears of the Year 2000 millennium bug first surfaced, old mainframe computers were thought to be the biggest potential problem.

Since then, embedded systems (or microchips) and personal computers now are giving the biggest headaches to those working on fixing the problem.

Few computer users worried about their home computers, thinking someone would come up with a magic bullet. Some experts said PCs probably wouldn’t be affected much anyway. Now the pendulum has swung back, and alarms are sounding.
