WhiteWave issues recall of crackers due to undeclared peanut content

BROOMFIELD – The WhiteWave Foods Co. (NYSE: WWAV) has recalled thousands of boxes of its Horizon Cheddar Sandwich Crackers due to a packaging error that has some boxes containing undeclared peanuts.

People with peanut allergies and sensitivities could face serious allergic reactions if they eat the crackers. The company announced the recall on Friday evening, and said in a press release that no illnesses had been reported as a result of the problem.WhiteWave Sandwich Crackers

A WhiteWave official declined to comment Monday much beyond the company’s announcement, but did acknowledge that the company is still working with distributors to try and find out how many of the boxes might have actually been sold to consumers.

Broomfield-based WhiteWave said in a statement that the company believes 62,160 7.5-ounce boxes were shipped to retailers and wholesalers in 32 states, including Colorado. While the outer package of the boxes is labeled as a cheddar sandwich cracker, the inner package contains peanut butter sandwich crackers.

Consumers trying to determine if they’ve purchased affected boxes should look for a “best before” date of May 17, 2015, and check the bottom of the box for a UPC code of 42365 00464. If purchased, the boxes can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange.
