LAEC honors four businesses, superintendent for community support

LONGMONT — The Longmont Area Economic Council on Wednesday honored four companies and one individual for their contributions to the community at its 15th annual Community Appreciation Luncheon.

Awards were given to Guaranty Bank, Magelab, vAuto and Wiland for their contributions to the economic health of the community and their philanthropic efforts supporting the nonprofit community and the environment. Don Haddad, superintendent of the St. Vrain Valley School District, received the Tom Brock Award.

“It is an honor to be a part of a business community where philanthropy and stewardship are so evident in the corporate culture of most businesses,” said Jessica Erickson, president of the LAEC. “Today’s awards recognize just a few of the many businesses in Longmont that go above and beyond every day to give back to the community in so many ways.”

Guaranty Bank was recognized for its support of TLC Learning Center, a nonprofit that provides comprehensive early childhood education and therapeutic services to assist children of all developmental abilities in achieving their highest potential.

Magnelab, which designs and manufactures custom magnetic components, was lauded for its support of the Longmont Sister Cities Initiative, an organization that fosters relationships with Longmont’s Sister Cities of Chino, Japan, and Ciudad Guzman, Mexico.

vAuto, which provides auto dealerships across the country with technology applications to manage their new- and used-car inventories, was honored for its environmental sustainability efforts, including its work with Partners for A Clean Environment to reduce waste and its overall environmental footprint.

Wiland, a marketing intelligence company that is in the process of building a new 90,000-square-foot facility, was recognized for supporting  Imagine!, a nonprofit that creates and offers innovative support to people of all ages with cognitive, developmental, physical, and health related needs so they may live fulfilling lives of independence and quality in their homes and communities.

The Tom Brock Award is given in honor of Tom Brock, a community leader who succeeded in business and was committed to making Longmont a better place to live. As part of his recognition, Haddad was asked to identify a local nonprofit to receive a $1,000 contribution in Tom’s honor. He selected A Woman’s Work, a nonprofit serving the needs of women through financial support for immediate needs that cannot be met by other sources, to receive the donation.
