Dairy organization to open in Windsor

WINDSOR — A Dairy Farmers of America office scheduled to open June 1 in Windsor will concentrate on customer service, marketing and member services for dairy farmers in Northern Colorado.

The dairy farmer-owned cooperative has hired two new employees and is relocating five others to a 3,240-square-foot office in Pelican Point Business Park in Windsor, according to the cooperative.

“The expiration of our lease coincided with our desire to relocate to Weld County, where dairy growth is strongest in the state,” Kristi Dale, spokeswoman for the cooperative, said in an e-mail. “One key benefit of the new office is the opportunity for more meetings with potential and existing members in close proximity to the growth areas and a number of existing dairies.”

California-based J.D. Heiskell, a livestock feed producer, also leased office space in the business park.

The move to 1613 Pelican Lakes Point in Windsor from Thornton comes as the national cooperative’s Colorado membership grows “at a pace consistent with the needs of Leprino’s new plant in Greeley,” according to the cooperative.

Most of the growth has come from expansion among the cooperative’s current members, Dale said. In addition, several dairies have leased land or are in various stages of planning and construction.

The cooperative has agreed to supply milk for the Leprino plant, which someday will have capacity for additional production that would require 50,000 cows, according to the cooperative.

About 30,000 dairy cows will be needed by the end of the year to produce 4.5 million pounds of milk for the factory.

Dennis Rodenbaugh, the cooperative’s senior vice president and chief operating officer, is one of the staffers who will relocate to the Windsor office.

“Establishing an office in Northern Colorado is a natural fit as we expand our resources to successfully meet the growth needs of existing and future customers,” Rodenbaugh said.

In addition to Rodenbaugh, the two new employees, both operations specialists, will work in Windsor. One will focus on member and internal communications while the other will handle inventory and risk management for plants, logistics and operations.
