BP may pull out of SW Colorado
DURANGO — A major Southwest Colorado employer is considering whether to pull out of the San Juan Basin natural gas and oil field in the region.
The Durango Herald reported this week that BP American Production Co. is considering the move. It told employees in a letter that it may sell assets in the San Juan Basin, Anadarko Basin in Oklahoma and Texas, and the Arkoma Basin in Oklahoma.
The sale of those assets would fund the purchase of shale oil and gas resources from global miner BHP Billiton, the Herald reported. But it could mean the loss of hundreds of jobs and millions in revenue generated in the region.
