Longmont Startup Week designed to showcase city as hub for startups

LONGMONT — Longmont Startup Week kicks off today as a way to highlight Longmont’s entrepreneurs to the region.

The goal is for anybody looking to start a business, invest in a business or wants to understand what is going on in the community to be inspired and educated by startup week, said Janine Ledingham, director of local business & startup community development for the Longmont Economic Development Partnership.

Tracks throughout the week are meant to represent Longmont’s diverse economy and its four target industries: advanced technology; bioscience; creative and culinary; and professional services and IT.

To follow those fields, panels during the week include subjects such as how to start a brewery, the state of drone technology in Colorado, a who’s who of incubators and accelerators in the area, the art of cheesemaking, how to land equity and advice on how to leverage big data.

Other events, Ledingham said, are designed to bring in the general Longmont community, such as a founder warriors event that lets startup teams compete on Longmont’s Ninja Warriors playground, a happy hour crawl between different Downtown locations and a summer concert series event on Friday to end the week.

She added that the hope is to foster collaboration across the region and grow Longmont’s place as a startup hub.
