Boulder hospital buildings under contract

BOULDER – A potential buyer has signed a contract to purchase the former Boulder Memorial Hospital at 311 Mapleton Ave., according to Ron Secrist, chairman of the board of the Boulder Community Hospital Foundation.

The deal is expected to close in June for the 14-acre parcel, Secrist said. He declined to name the potential buyer or the potential purchase price. If the sale happens, Boulder Community Hospital would lease the site from the buyer through some time in 2016, Secrist said.

Six buildings on the site include the building in which the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine is located, the “Maxwell building,” which was formerly a nurse dormitory, an equipment/facilities building and three cottages, Secrist said.

A 5.89-acre parcel of mostly undeveloped land just north of the site at 2641 4th St. sold for $4.6 million in 2011, according to the Boulder County Assessor’s website.

Boulder Community Hospital is in the early stages of a $110 million expansion of the Foothills Hospital campus. The majority of inpatient acute services and the emergency room are being moved to the campus, which is at 4747 Arapahoe Ave., over a period of three years.

The second phase of the expansion, which is centralizing outpatient services and business operations at the campus on Broadway, will cost $15 million spread over two years, according to the hospital’s website.
