Stadium Committee to deliver feasibility report tonight

FORT COLLINS – The CSU Stadium Advisory Committee will present its feasibility report at a public meeting tonight.

Last February, the committee set to work examining the feasibility of building an on-campus stadium. The committee was split into four subcommittees, assigned to public input, site selection, fundraising and design.

CSU President Tony Frank gave the committee a set of parameters that take into consideration existing green space, view sheds, mitigating impact on neighbors and ensuring that the stadium will not be paid for using public or tuition dollars.

The potential stadium, proposed by CSU athletic director Jack Graham in December, has become a point of much contention in the intervening months, diving the CSU and Fort Collins communities.

Preliminary designs show the stadium potentially being built on Whitcomb Street between Pitkin and Lake streets. Plans call for a 42,806-seat stadium with a $246 million price tag. The finance committee has estimated that between $212 million and $490 million could be raised from a variety of sources.

In the event that the money cannot all be raised from private sources, the committee has a backup plan that could involve taking out a loan for anywhere from $167 million to $270 million.

The committee will present its recommendation to Frank tonight at 7 p.m. at the Lory Student Center East Ballroom.
