Vail adds MGM Resorts CEO to board

BROOMFIELD — Vail Resorts Inc. (NYSE: MTN) has appointed MGM Resorts International CEO Bill Hornbuckle to its board of directors.

“Hornbuckle oversees all aspects of MGM Resorts’ strategy, operations, hospitality and gaming development projects,” Vail said in a news release. “Since assuming the role six years ago, he has led MGM through transformative periods while advancing the company’s evolution toward a more diversified, experience-led business model and driving growth in dining, entertainment and premium experiences.”

Hornbuckle’s appointment comes on the heels of a strategy pivot unveiled by Vail Resorts in July. The Broomfield-based resort operator said it will shift away from its strategy of growing Epic Pass users and its global resort portfolio, and towards improving visitor experience.

The new strategic vision, dubbed Epic Experience, involves a commitment to “white-glove” service and amenities for skiers, Vail said in a news release. That includes everything from private lessons with concierge services to slopeside valets for gear rentals and a new burger option featuring New School American Cheese, pecan-smoked bacon and brioche buns.

“Bill is an accomplished hospitality leader with deep experience operating world-class resorts, building guest loyalty and elevating service,” Vail CEO Rob Katz said in a prepared statement. “As we launch Epic Experience — our multi-year roadmap to make every part of the mountain journey more seamless, personalized and memorable — we are thrilled to welcome Bill to our board and know he will immediately make a substantial contribution to our efforts.”
