Colorado Springs coin dealer seeing a modern-day gold rush
COLORADO SPRINGS — For the last six months, resident shave lined ouside a local coin dealer to cash in on their gold at Hallenbeck Coin Gallery on North Nevada Avenue.
“It’s almost a frenzy,” Tom Hallenbeck told The Gazette. “It is a version of the modern gold rush. The amazing thing is people are buying at these prices, too, and we’re having to educate them about what is an ingot, a coin, a bullion.”
Gold prices hit an all-time high of $4,400 an ounce this month. Silver, likewise, peaked at $54.47 an ounce on Oct. 17, driving people to line up at the coin gallery to trade jewelry, coins, cutlery and even gold teeth.
