Shredding firm in Berthoud plans for growth after acquisition

BERTHOUD — More hiring and more services are planned at a shredding company in Berthoud nearly two months after it was acquired by a Nebraska-based firm.

Shred Vault, which has a flagship business in Omaha and locations in North Platte, Nebraska, and Des Moines, Iowa, officially acquired Apex Shredding Inc. on Dec. 1. Apex had been operating in Berthoud since March 2007 and now will be branded as Shred Vault Colorado.

The acquisition, the company said on its website, “will allow us not only to continue to provide excellent customer service but also to expand our service offerings, elevate and streamline customer service, continue to grow and develop in the communities we serve.”

Matt Neuhaus, who worked with Shred Vault for 13 years, has been appointed president of Shred Vault Colorado. Eric Pederson, who had been Apex’s president and chief operating officer, and Ann Pederson, who had been its vice president and chief financial officer, are no longer involved in the company but had been aiding in the transition well into January.

Neuhaus said he has hired two employees for a total of four. “We want to bring on at least two more in the next six months,” he told BizWest on Tuesday. “That’s assuming no growth, but we plan on growing.”

The company, which operates in approximately 2,500 square feet at 912 N. Second St. in Berthoud, offers document and data-destruction and custom, on-demand business and residential shredding services through a kiosk deposit system.

“We’re adding the consumer-level shredding product in as soon as 30 days,” Neuhaus said, adding that other future plans include continuing Apex’s mission of being involved in the community.
