Gaia Inc. posts net loss despite growth in revenue, subscribers

LOUISVILLE — Gaia Inc. (Nasdaq: GAIA) posted a third quarter loss per share of 58 cents, a greater loss than Q3 2017 when the company lost 34 cents per share.

Gaia nearly doubled its net loss from $5.2 million in the third quarter of 2017 to $10.3 million in the third quarter of 2018.

Despite the loss, Gaia did manage to grow its revenue to nearly $11.4 million, up from $7.5 million for the same period last year.

The company grew its paid subscriber count to 515,000 in its third quarter, up 66 percent from the same period the year prior when the company had 311,000 paid subscribers.

During the third quarter Gaia, a company that focuses on conscious media, launched its fourth channel, Alternative Healing. The company’s third channel — Transformation, launched in Fall 2016 — is primary viewing for one-third of Gaia’s subscribers. The new channel is expected to follow a similar path.

Gaia is offering a premium subscription offering: an annual subscription of $299 that includes the unlimited streaming of of live events from Gaia’s new events center in its headquarters, expected to open in the second quarter of 2019.

“We are continuing the year on a good track, achieving our subscriber growth target,” said Jirka Rysavy, Gaia’s CEO, in a prepared statement. “We expect the Alternative Healing channel to meaningfully contribute to our growth in the coming years.”
