New government affairs director for Terrapin Care Station

BOULDER — Terrapin Care Station the Boulder-based national cannabis company, has hired Nico Pento as its government affairs director.

Pento joins Terrapin after two years serving as policy director in the Colorado Legislature. There, he advised House Republicans on developing a legislative agenda.

“I’m excited to apply the skills I learned under Colorado’s Gold Dome to the burgeoning cannabis industry,” Pento said in a prepared statement. “With cannabis still a new industry in Colorado and with new states and municipalities facing uncertainties as their cannabis programs are debated and come online, it is critical that we apply fair and balanced policy in governing it.”

As Mental Health Awareness Month unfolds in Colorado, it serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to prioritize mental well-being.

During his time at the Legislature, Pento brokered several bipartisan solutions for issues such as transportation funding, data security, criminal justice reform and marijuana policy.

“Just as I learned to collaborate with elected officials in the legislature to develop specific legislative proposals and policy alternatives for caucus members, I look forward to applying similar skills in maintaining the success of a safe and regulated cannabis marketplace across the nation,” Pento said.

Terrapin has six retail licenses in Colorado — in Boulder, Aurora, Denver and Longmont — and cultivates and processes cannabis in Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana program. The company recently applied for cultivation and retail licenses in New Jersey’s expanding medical marijuana program and is considering additional expansion to states such as Michigan.

“Nico’s ability to understand the intricacies and projected effects of legislation, rules and regulations is of great value not just to us, but to the cannabis industry as a whole,” Terrapin owner and CEO Chris Woods said in a prepared statement. “It’s especially important as we talk about the interplay between state, federal and local laws in a developing cannabis industry. We look forward to continued success with Nico’s guidance and assistance.”
