CenturyLink announces combined executive team pending Level 3 acquisition

BROOMFIELD — There’s a new executive team for Level 3 Communications Inc. (NYSE: LVLT), effective when its acquisition by CenturyLink Inc. (NYSE: CTL) officially closes.

That new leadership includes Clay Bailey, who as senior vice president of transformation will lead the integration of CenturyLink and Level 3.

Sunit Patel will carry over from Level 3’s leadership team to the combined leadership team as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Patel will be responsible for the company’s domestic and international finance and accounting functions.

Laurinda Pang, who was regional president for North America and Asia Pacific, will now be an executive vice president for global accounts management and international. Pang will be responsible for sales, revenue generation and enterprise service delivery for the company’s top global accounts.

Dean Douglas, Gary Gauba, Stacey Goff, Aamir Hussain, Maxine Moreau, Scott Trezise and Girish Varma will all continue on from CenturyLink to be part of senior management. They will serve respectively as executive vice president for North America enterprise, chief relationship officer, general counsel and chief administrative officer, chief technology officer, executive vice president for consumers, executive vice president of human resources and executive vice president for IT and managed services. A chief marketing officer is yet to be named.

“We have assembled an incredibly talented and experienced executive team that is well positioned to lead the combined company and drive our increased enterprise focus,” Glen F. Post III, CEO and president of CenturyLink, said in a prepared statement. “With the assets we will have as a result of this strategic combination and with this leadership team in place at closing, we believe we will be positioned to deliver strong performance not only in the United States, but also in our expanded markets globally.”

Level 3 CEO Jeff Storey, along with seven other of the company’s executives, were not listed as members of the combined leadership team.

Shareholders of both companies, as well as several states, have approved or cleared the acquisition, which is expected to close by the end of the third quarter this year.
