LEDP hands out Community Appreciation awards

LONGMONT — RMC Pharmaceutical Solutions, Village at the Peaks and Sun Construction & Facility Services have received 2016 Community Appreciation awards in recognition of their philanthropic contributions in the community over the past year.

Also at the awards event presented Thursday by the Longmont Economic Development Partnership, the Longmont Industrial Parks board of directors presented the Top Brock Award to Dale Katechis, and the LEDP in conjunction with Partners for A Clean Environment presented its first PACE Business Sustainability Award to Main Street Mats.

RMC Pharma was recognized for its support of Longmont Meals on Wheels, a nonprofit whose primary focus is to provide hot, nutritious meals and a daily check to older adults and people with disabilities whi reside in the Longmont community.

Village at the Peaks was recognized for its support of the I Have a Dream Foundation, a nonprofit that provides long-term support to children and youth living in under-resourced communities to achieve their full potential by promoting from an early age values of higher education and career success.

Sun Construction & Facility Services was recognized for its support of the OUR Center, a nonprofit that helps people move toward self-sufficiency by unifying community resources.

The Tom Brock Award was created by the Longmont Industrial Park board many years ago to honor Tom Brock, a business and community leader who helped establish the connection between a healthy local economy and a quality community. Katechis, founder and president of Oskar Blues Brewery, was asked to identify a local nonprofit to receive a $1,000 contribution in Brock’s honor on behalf of the Longmont Industrial Park board through the Longmont Community Foundation. Katechis selected the CAN’d Aid Foundation, a nonprofit formed by Oskar Blues that through events raises money for causes in towns in which it operates.

Main Street Mats was recognized for its achievements in energy efficiency and water conservation, and their demonstration of leadership in the community in the area of environmental sustainability.
