UQM Technologies appoints Mitchell president, CEO

LONGMONT — UQM Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UAM) announced Tuesday that interim president and chief executive Joseph Mitchell has been appointed president and CEO and will take a seat on the company’s board of directors.

Mitchell had been interim CEO since July 21, replacing Eric Ridenour, who was “removed” as president, CEO and board member.

UQM develops and manufactures electric motors, generators, power electronic controllers and fuel-cell compressors for the commercial truck, bus, automotive, marine, military and industrial markets.

Mitchell joined the company three years ago as vice president of operations and led all manufacturing, quality and purchasing functions. Mitchell has more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry, with more than 15 years in the development and production of electric powertrains and vehicle electrification.

After conducting an appropriate search, the board firmly believes that Mr. Mitchell is the right person for this job,” Donald Vanlandingham, UQM’s chairman of the board, said in a prepared statement. “We believe his vision and experience are the right combination to drive the company forward.”

Prior to joining UQM, Mitchell was director of operations and quality for Continental Automotive’s North American Hybrid and Electric Drive business unit, where he led all North American manufacturing, advanced manufacturing strategy, planning and global sourcing for the hybrid electric drive business unit. His previous experience also includes senior management positions at Siemens VDO, Ballard Power Systems. Prior to that, Mitchell held a series of manufacturing and quality management positions at Ford Motor Co.
