Lightning Hybrids garners award at NREL Industry Growth Forum

Loveland-based Lightning Hybrids earned top prize among 30 presenting clean-tech companies at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Industry Growth Forum in Golden.

Lightning Hybrids was named Best Venture.

The company makes hybrid systems for medium- and heavy-duty fleet vehicles.

Lightning Hybrids was one of 30 competitively selected companies presenting at the forum, and will receive in-kind commercialization support for its triumph.

Two other companies — Stone Mountain Technologies out of Johnson City, Tenn., and Sun Number out of Denver — received Outstanding Venture awards.

“It’s always fun to get validation,” Lightning Hybrids president and co-founder Tim Reeser said in a release from NREL.

Earlier this year, Lightning Hybrids officials said the company is poised to do about $23.5 million in sales in 2016 as clients participating in pilot programs start purchasing hybrid systems for larger portions of their truck fleets. The company employs roughly 50 people, mostly in Loveland.
