Events planned for Workforce Development Month

DENVER — During the next four weeks, state- and county-run employment offices will partner with the Department of Labor and Employment to spotlight a variety of services and resources available to the state’s 2.7 million men and women in the state’s labor force and the 170,000 Colorado businesses that hire them.

Gov. John Hickenlooper has issued a proclamation declaring September as Workforce Development Month in Colorado.

Workforce Development Month began in 2004 with a handful of events. Now starting its second decade, the annual series of events has grown to include a wide array of workshops, open houses, hiring events (both in person and online), employer seminars and more.

Business Cares: May 2024

As Mental Health Awareness Month unfolds in Colorado, it serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to prioritize mental well-being.

Throughout September, Colorado’s Workforce Centers will be teaming with the Department of Labor and Employment to offer these events, including:

Job Fairs and Hiring Events: Hiring events will take place each week in Longmont, Boulder, Denver and other cities. Employment Services of Weld County will host a job fair for people interested in exploring careers with the region’s burgeoning oil and gas industry and a “virtual” job fair is going on now through Sept. 15 online, offering job opportunities related to Colorado’s ski industry. Job seekers need to register at www.connectingcolorado.com to gain entry.

Special Events: Workforce Centers in Durango, Cortez, Walsenburg, Trinidad and Monte Vista will hold Customer Appreciation Day Open Houses and the newly opened Southeast Workforce Center in La Junta will have its grand opening Sept. 10.

Presentations and Symposiums: On Sept. 5, the Pikes Peak Workforce Center will hold the First Annual State of The Workforce presentation. This free event will feature a keynote address by futurist Thomas Frey. For more information or to RSVP, call 719-383-3191.

The Larimer County Workforce Center will hold its annual Workforce Symposium at Embassy Suites in Loveland, which will focus on critical strategies and tools to find local solutions to global issues.  This event will also be combined with the largest business-to-business show in the region.

 New Website Official Launch: In September, the Department of Labor and Employment will officially launch the redesign of its website, colorado.gov/cdle. The new design is fresh and modern with a more responsive interface, making navigation easier particularly on mobile devices. The new site features a calendar of events, video content and a new “labor statistics” page which highlights data from the Office of Labor Market Information.

The Workforce of the Future: Construction Career Days will give high school students in the Denver area opportunities to explore the construction trades.  In late September, the Governor’s Summer Job Hunt will conclude its 34th season with an awards reception to honor the exemplary teens and the great businesses that hired them this summer.
