Northwestern Mutual seeks agents, interns

FORT COLLINS – Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. aims to add 85 financial representatives and 135 interns this year in Denver and nearby offices in Fort Collins, Boulder, Greenwood Village and Lakewood. The effort is part of the company’s nationwide goal to recruit a record-setting 6,400 financial professionals in 2014.

For the Fort Collins office and its eight satellites – including one in Loveland – that means eight more financial representatives, for a total of 10, and 11 more interns, for a total of 15, according to Sarah Johnston, director of recruiting and selection in the Fort Collins office.

Northwestern Mutual, based in Milwaukee, Wis., is growing its field force to keep pace with growing demand locally for financial security guidance, products and services, according to a press statement. Research shows 63 percent of Americans believe their overall financial planning needs improvement and half have no plan in place, according to the 2013 Planning and Progress Study.

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

“We’re seeing a need across all ages for a tailored planning approach to asset protection, growth and savings,´ said Scott Theodore, managing partner of Northwestern Mutual in Denver. “Our recruiting efforts are a direct result of that demand.”

The company expects that more than half of the new financial representatives will be “career changers” – professionals who believe they have reached the ceiling in their current occupation and are looking for an opportunity to grow.

“Individuals are hungry for financial guidance, and for those with the right background, now is an ideal time to pursue a career in financial planning,´ said Brian Cunningham, a managing partner in the company’s downtown Denver office. “We find new financial representatives who are motivated by the rewards Northwestern Mutual offers and our commitment to helping people realize their financial goals.”
