CSU professors selected for AAAS fellowship

Three Colorado State University professors have been named Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Patrick Byrne, Debbie Crans and Nora Lapitan are among 388 new fellows who will be recognized for their contributions to science and technology at the AAAS meeting in Chicago Feb. 13 through Feb. 17.

Founded in 1848, the AAAS is an international non-profit organization that seeks to “advance science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people.”

Professors were selected by the AAAS Council based on their current and past contributions to the science community: Byrne, a professor of crop and soil sciences, was selected for his research in drought tolerance and disease resistance in plants; Crans, a chemistry professor, was cited for her findings and contributions in the field of inorganic chemistry; and Lapitan, a professor of crop sciences, was selected for her findings on plant genome organization and crop species traits.
