Endoshape receives FDA OK to sell device

BOULDER – Medical-device research company Endoshape Inc. plans to start selling a device in 2014 that closes blood vessels to stop internal bleeding, after receiving clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Jeff Castleberry, chief operating officer at Boulder-based Endoshape, declined to discuss financial details of the device or of the privately held company. The trademarked Medusa Vascular Plug is delivered through a catheter during surgery.

The device can be used after a car accident to help stop internal bleeding in a patient, for example, as well as in other surgeries, Castleberry said. An estimated 50,000 people in the United States…
