Consumer confidence in the mountain region has reached a five-year high, according to a new report by the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation.
According to the data, the consumer confidence index in the mountain region, which includes Colorado, rose to 89.1, its highest level since March 2008.
The report also shows that the number of Colorado companies on The Fortune 500 list has increased to 10, up from nine last year.
“It’s a very important measure for states when you have a Fortune 500 company in your state,” says Patty Silverstein, the Chief Economist for the Metro Denver EDC. “These companies support a wide base of businesses and professional services in the area.”
The Colorado job market is showing progress. Seasonally adjusted data shows that Colorado is very close to recovering from the economic recession.
“We lost nearly 155,000 jobs in Colorado at the lowest point. We are now within 800 jobs of seasonal peak employment,” says Silverstein.
