Award created in Dean Callan’s name

BOULDER – The legacy of the late Dean Callan, founder of Dean Callan & Co. and a pioneer in commercial real estate brokerage in Boulder, will live on in an award in his honor, the Commercial Brokers of Boulder announced Monday.

Callan, who died Oct. 8, founded Dean Callan & Co. in 1963. His contributions to the industry and the community were noted in tributes by several of the biggest names in Boulder real estate at the CBB luncheon.

“He was the guru of Boulder real estate,´ said Stephen Tebo, owner and founder of Tebo Development Co. Tebo said he began working with Callan in the 1970s when he first became interested in investing in Boulder real estate, and Callan was the leading broker in the area.

During his long career, Callan served as a mentor to many of the most prominent figures in the Boulder real estate industry who would go on to form their own companies, said Bill Reynolds, founder of W.W. Reynolds Cos.

B. Scot Smith, founder of The Colorado Group Inc., said Callan always was willing to help out young brokers. Callan sponsored Smith when he applied for his salesman’s license in the 1970s.

The Dean Callan Recognition Award will be given annually by the Commercial Brokers of Boulder to a member of this industry that demonstrates exceptional professional service to clients, integrity, community involvement and leadership and mentorship.

A $2,500 donation will be made to a charity selected by the winner and the Callan family.

Nominations will be accepted in November, and the award will be given at the December CBB meeting.
